Using Biometrics to Safely Dispense Medication.

Using Biometrics to Safely Dispense Medication.Dispensing solutions company, Medbox Inc., is gaining some media attention for their new medication dispensing machine, particularly for it’s potential use as a dispenser for medical marijuana.

The device, complete with rows of locker-sized boxes and a touch screen, looks a bit like something you would find at a waterpark, with one big difference. In place of a key, the boxes are unlocked using a combination of a patient’s drivers license and biometric fingerprint verification.

While they are gaining notoriety for their potential applications as medical marijuana dispensers, they are useful in a wide variety of other areas as well. Tired of standing in line every time you go to CVS or Rite-Aid? These devices may soon be making there way into your neighborhood drug store, as a way to help speed up prescription filling and cut down on the time customers are spending in line at the pharmacy. Additionally, Medbox provides a unit for hospitals, which would speed up the dosing of patients, while also reducing the likelihood of medication loss and abuse.

Medbox Inc., is also applying their biometric verification technology to a wide variety of lockbox applications outside of the medical industry. The technology is ready for use everywhere from hotel room safes to large storage boxes. The large storage boxes would allow a company like Amazon, or even an individual, to drop off large packages for storage, safe-keeping, or even for someone else to pick up.
