Tobii's MYTOBII P10 15" screen

One interesting player in the field of eye tracking technology is Tobii. Tobii is a Swedish company involved in eye tracking since 2001, and is making an attempt to provide both hardware and software solutions in the fields of design testing and medicine.

Tobii has created a mobile eye-controlled device that assists in communication for people with disabilities like cerebral palsy and ALS, among others. The engineers at Tobii have created what is essentially a portable screen. The screen houses both an eye control device and computer inside, making their product both minimal and portable.

But the impressive feature that Tobii offers is the ability to track eye movement without having the user, as they say, “do” or “wear” anything. Tobii uses a combination of sensors and reflecting infrared light to monitor the eyes’ gaze and movement. Infrared light is invisible to the human eye, so there is no discomfort during this process. With Tobii’s technology, a user sits in front of the screen, and after a short calibration session, is able to operate a cursor, write email, and surf the web simply by moving their eyes, looking at certain areas of the screen, and blinking.

Eye-Com is doing something similar, though with Eye-Com’s technology, the user can look throughout their environment, and not only at a screen while operating various devices. But more on that in our next post!

Have you tried the DynaVox EyeMax? We choose it over the MyTobii eye-tracker because it was more accurate and an overall more portable and better communication device for our student.

We actually have not tried the DynaVox EyeMax, but we definitely will. Thank you for the recommendation and if you have any more information about eye-tracking let us know, we definitely want to hear from anyone active in the industry. Thanks again!
