Eye Tracking Usability: What is the Best Sitemap Layout?
At Eye Tracking Update we have to sift through a lot of press releases from companies bragging about their new designs and how effective they are. But every once in a while an article is worth noting on our site, if for nothing else than mentioning eye tracking as an effective tool for design of a site and determining layout, etc.
In a recent post at a blog called Active Website, the writer mentions their use of Tobii’s technology to determine usability of their site and others they manage. Real estate companies are beginning to use eye tracking to create more effective and interactive sites, improving their function and overall user experience.
In the article, Active Website teamed up with Tobii for a study that allowed customers from a diverse set of ages and experience to inform how they want to see content laid out on a page. Eye tracking seems to have made the company quite happy and given them some insight as to what the users expect and request. Active Website recently released their latest usability report to network members announcing their findings. It seems to have helped – after all, if companies like Google, Microsoft, and Ebay are using it, why shouldn’t smaller businesses looking for a competitive edge and some design, layout, or at least usability to set them apart from the pack.
With eye tracking, sites like these don’t have to go stumbling around in the dark to get insight on their pages. They can see results and make educated decisions on the best ways to create and position their pages and online brands.
